THE CLEO INSTITUTE

Melting Florida
Picture
REALITY
2020 was one of Florida's hottest years in the last 126 years. Consistent temperatures above 90 degrees Fahrenheit provoked extreme natural disasters, putting the lives of millions of people at risk and causing the extinction of iconic species.

IDEA
We created sculptures of iconic Florida symbols that melted with the extreme heat, revealing the consequences of climate change. Built using a combination of art and science, the sculptures only melted at consistent temperatures above 90 degrees Fahrenheit over 2 weeks.

RESULTS
Melting Florida raised awareness among Floridians, generated conversation, and also received media attention, not only locally but around the world, exceeding our expectations.
